OWOSSO - A vacancy on the City Council could be filled at Monday's meeting.
Mayor Mike Bruff said the council is planning on appointing someone to the seat left empty by former Mayor Linda Robertson's resignation last month. Robertson resigned because of health reasons.
Whoever is appointed to the seat will finish out the final two years of her term.
Jason Simmons and Brent Wesley - who both ran in November's election unsuccessfully - have sent letters of interest to the city.
Simmons, 30, is a surgical technologist who wants to address the city's downtown and parks if appointed.
“I feel that I have some good ideas and a positive outlook, and I want to try to help the community and citizens of the city,” he said.
Being a critical thinker with an ability to “think outside the box” would make Simmons a good choice, he said.
“Also getting to know different council members, I think we all have very similar interest in making the city a better place ... I think I could be an essential part of that team,” he said.
Wesley, co-owner of Crosswinds Cafe and a 911 dispatcher with the Shiawassee County Sheriff's Department, would like to address enhancing the downtown's entertainment district and parks.
“I'd like to be part of the new council, work with the new city manager and try to do some good things for the city,” said Wesley, 31.
He'd also like to connect to the city's younger generations, finding out what it is they are looking for and show they do care.
Wesley said his career as a dispatcher makes him a good choice because he would bring a different perspective and has a strong understanding of what goes on behind the scenes of the city.
