OWOSSO - A year ago, Cody Camp took his love for mixed martial arts to a new level.
After deciding to take lessons, Camp, who has watched MMA since he was about 11, recently broke into the professional ranks.
After posting a 3-0 record as an amateur, Camp made the jump during a recent tournament in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Now, Camp just hopes to continue his improvement, and someday find himself making a living as an MMA fighter.
“I've just got to train real hard,” Camp said. “I did anyway, but now, it's the next level. It's like going from college to the NFL.”
It didn't take long for Camp to realize just how drastic of a step up the competition really was.
“It was pretty nerve-racking,” he said. “It made me want to perform at the best of my ability.
“They would have had to kill me to get me out of that ring.”
Camp will have a chance to move to 2-0 as a pro fighter when he heads back to the Fort Wayne Coliseum Sept. 6.
“He'll get to bigger and better things,” Charlie Frederick said.
Camp has trained under Frederick and his wife Julie for the past year.
