Ovid-Elsie's Kayla Galecka was named to the MHSSCA Division 3 All-State third team recently.
Galecka, a junior forward, was honored by the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches' Association after leading the Marauders to a Tri-Valley Conference Central Division title and gaining TVC first-team honors.
“Kayla receiving third-team All-State is definitely an honor she's deserving of,” coach Craig Thelen said, “at the very least.
“She is the leader of our team. She led the team in assists and was second in goals scored. She controlled the middle of the field for us, often stopping the opposition's attack and starting our own counter-attack,” he said.
Galecka scored 15 goals and had 13 assists.
Ovid-Elsie finished 12-0-1 in the TVC Central and 16-2-2 overall. The Marauders reached the district finals before losing to Williamston, 3-0.
“Kayla's a hard worker, one that has excellent ball-handling skills and vision. She definitely will be a player to watch in the upcoming season. I know that she looks to prove herself even more and help take the Marauders even deeper into the playoffs next year,” Thelen said.
