News3 teens charged with felonious assaultBy DOMINIC ADAMS Argus-Press Staff WriterCORUNNA - Three teenagers were bound over to Shiawassee County Circuit Court for their alleged roles in a brawl where someone used a baseball bat to beat a 20-year-old Owosso man.
Shane Bellanowski, 19, of Flushing, Aaron McLean, 19, of Flint and Sarah A. Tylus, 17, of Flushing, all face felony charges after 66th District Court Judge Terrance Dignan ruled there was enough evidence for the charges during Tuesday preliminary examination. Bellanowski is charged with felonious assault and conspiracy to commit assault and battery. Both McLean and Tylus are charged with felonious assault. The charges come after a group of people allegedly jumped Chad F. Kirk Aug. 10 in the 1300 block of S. Walnut St. in Owosso. Dignan ruled there wasn't enough evidence to charge Kyle Walton, 19, of Owosso, and Shelby Vandesand, 20, of Owosso, with felonies. Dignan told Shiawassee County Assistant Prosecutor Daniel Nees to refile misdemeanor assault charges against both individuals. Kirk detailed the assault during Tuesday's exam. “One hit me before I hit the ground with a baseball bat, but I blocked it with my arm,” Kirk testified. “I tried to block my face as best I could because I didn't want to get hit in the face with a bat...I heard someone say, ‘This is for cheap-shotting our boy,' and then they just started working on me.” Det./Sgt. James Carlson of the Owosso Police Department testified McLean told him a juvenile hit Kirk with the aluminum Easton baseball bat. Nees said he would not comment on juvenile matters. Carlson said a juvenile from Genesee County was released to his parents. Juvenile defendants are processed through Shiawassee County Probate Judge James R. Clatterbaugh. Most juvenile proceedings are open to the public. Bellanowksi, McLean and Tylus have arraignments at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 12 in 35th Judicial Circuit Court. - Contact Dominic Adams at 725-5136 extension 239 or by e-mail at dadamsarguspress@gmail.com. |
