Natural light flooding through glass walls will shine on the Shiawassee Arts Center's first exhibit after months of remodeling.

Twenty-two artists will show their work in the exhibition which opened at the end of August and continues through Oct. 5. Twenty of the artists are members of the SAC Artist Guild.

A reception to meet the artists will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 14. The public is invited to the free event. Refreshments will be served and guests will have an opportunity to walk through the various galleries, enjoy the artwork and explore the new SAC addition while Richard Lehmann provides music on the Center's grand piano.

The art work in the exhibit itself reflects nature visible through the windows from any point in the River Gallery, the main feature of SAC's new addition.

The artists are excited about being the first to show their work in the new gallery.

Marcia Selley's artwork includes vibrant colors she sees in nature. She enjoys working on large canvas pieces, and the exhibit includes her oil and watercolor pieces.

“I‘ve always loved Van Gogh,” she said. “I love his brush strokes. That kind of work inspires me.”

Selley, of Grand Blanc, begins with one layer of color and adds to it.

“I'm looking to make more contrast, more color,” she said. “I just love sharing the outdoors with people.

“I hope when people look at my paintings, they will say, ‘I've never noticed that before.'”

Greg Mulnix of Owosso works in bronze forms, both bas relief sculpture as wall hangings and figurative forms.

“I love three-dimensional forms,” he said. “ I live the space they create.”

Mulnix says that that he is inspired by nature.

“I find things in nature that are interesting and try to bring it to the viewer's attention,” he said.

Mulnix said that he loves bronze as a medium in which to express his art.

“I love how it reflects light back,” he said, “how light and shadow become a part of the piece of art.”

Other members of the SAC Artists Guild who have art pieces on dislpay in the exhibit include Janet Baugher; Bonnie Brown; Joanne Buckley; Rebecca Case; Aundrea Corey; Jeanne Curtis; Lila Gerber; Linda Hill; Mistie Jordan; Janis Kazan; Jann Lardie; Marti Liddle-Lameti; Peggy Lovejoy; Susan McGuire; Sue Newcom; Johnette Osborne; Julie Penfold; Michelle Rose; Linda Ruehle and Tamara Sanders.

Galleries take place Tuesday through Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. There is no admission charge and the public is welcome.
