Laingsburg's Ayers runs fifth at Greater Lansing

GRAND LEDGE - Laingsburg's Amaya Ayers finished fifth out of 240 runners at the Greater Lansing Championships Saturday.

Ayers finished with a time of 19 minutes, 32 seconds, about a half minute behind winner Emma Drenth of Williamston, who was the only girls' event runner to break the 19-minute mark, finishing in 18:53.

William-ston won the girls' event with 77 points and had another runner place in the top 10, as Lauren Halm finished ninth in 19:43. East Lansing finished second with 122 and Leslie rounded out the top three with 126. Perry was the top local team, finishing 10th with 340 points. Laingsburg was 26th with 697 and Ovid-Elsie 32nd with 936 points.

The Ramblers were well-represented within the top 100, with four runners: Lilly Young led the team with a time of 20:06, good for 21st place; Ellen Hayward finished 52nd in 21:12; Kylie Parker 66th in 21:38; and Lisa Rosado 81st in 21:54.

Ovid-Elsie had the only other local runner finish in the top 100, with Jenny Frantz finishing 91st in 22:07.

Laingsburg's Brianna Fugate ran 115th in 22:39 as the team's second-best finisher.

Perry had a strong showing in the boys' event, running 11th overall with 317 points. The overall winner was St. Johns with 141 points, followed by Ionia (144) and Williamston (155).

Laingsburg finished 14th with 424 and Ovid-Elsie ended up in 18th place with 523 points.

Brockton Feltman of Grand Ledge was the individual top finisher with a time of 16:17.

The Ramblers had three runners in the top 40 and a fourth in the top 100. Jake Fortman was the team's top finisher, placing 21st in 16:59. Justin Krauss finished 33rd in 17:20, Tony Rasch was 38th in 17:20 and Jon Bell was 96th in 18:09.

Laingsburg had two runners finish in the top 100, including Paul Crum, who finished 44th in 17:28. Mark List followed closely behind, in 54th at 17:35. Ryan Hasselbach was 104th in 18:13.

The top finisher for Ovid-Elsie was Marques Horak in 78th at 17:56. Mike Strieff finished 85th in 18:00 and Trenton Garlcok 99th in 18:10 for the Marauders.
