SportsLaingburg-Bath hires new soccer coach for varsity teamsBy The Argus-PressLAINGSBURG - Josh Zeluff knows he has some big shoes to fill.
Zeluff, 33, has been named the new Laingsburg-Bath boys' varsity soccer coach. He succeeds Shawn Fulton, who coached the Wolfpack to winning seasons the past five years, including last fall when Laingsburg-Bath reached the Division 2 state semifinals and finished with a 16-6 mark. The team won district and regional championships for the first time. Fulton retired at the end of the season. Zeluff, a 1994 graduate of DeWitt High School, has coached the Laingsburg-Bath boys' JV team for one year as well as the Laingsburg-Bath girls' JV squad one season. “Both were right around the .500 mark,” said Zeluff. He also was a volunteer assistant for the DeWitt junior varsity squad one season. He said Fulton has done an outstanding job coaching the Laingsburg-Bath consolidated team. “Yes, they are big shoes to fill,” said Zeluff. “Shawn really worked hard to keep the program up and I know I am excited to be taking over. The team reached the state semifinals but we lost 13 players but we do have two returning starters back.” Zeluff has taught at Laingsburg for the past five years. He teaches seventh grade science and alternative energy. He earned his bachelors degree in Microbiology and then later earned his teacher's certificate. Fulton led Laingsburg-Bath to a 15-3-1 record in the fall of 2007. The team fared 11-7 in 2006, 11-6-1 in 2005 and 7-5-2 in 2004. |
