WASHINGTON - U.S. Reps. Dave Camp and Dale Kildee introduced a resolution on the House floor Tuesday, condemning violence against anyone for their views and honoring the memory of Jim Pouillon, who was killed Sept. 11 in Owosso.
“This was a true tragedy for Jim's family, friends, and the greater Owosso community,” Camp said. “I've known Jim as long as I've been in Congress, and we shared many conversations about pro-life issues. He was a tireless advocate for protecting the sanctity of human life, and I always admired him for that.”
Kildee agreed.
“The protection of human life and human dignity has been at the core of my beliefs since I was a seminary student,” Kildee said. “Any act of violence against another person based on their beliefs is despicable and I strongly condemn the murder of Jim Pouillon. My condolences go out to his friends and family, as well as other victims of this kind of senseless violence throughout our country.”
Local businessman Mike Fuoss, who also was shot Sept. 11, was not mentioned in the resolution.
Owosso resident Harlan Drake, 33, faces two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths. Drake is undergoing a psychiatric exam in Ypsilanti before court proceedings commence.

As far as your comment about Mary Jo, if she wishes no one to disagree, she best stay off public forums. Your opinion of the matter is of no interest to me, as the comment was not addressed to you. You are free to whine to your heart's content. "

Are some of the messages in poor taste? Yes, and I am sorry for that. Keep in mind, however, that when he stood out in front of my elementary school, junior high school, high school and my church on Sundays it was also in poor taste. Your dad chose places sacred to the community and held up an ugly sign to frighten children. He didn't reach out to help girls in trouble or help the community solve problems...he just stood there.
Mary Jo, I can't imagine what you must be going through. I hope that you find peace somewhere. Regardless of what people think Jim was your father and you should never have to defend your love for him...especially on an internet message board. Turn off the computer and just let people utilize that first amendment right your father exercised all those years. This is not worth your sanity. "

As for congress, isn't that something. Like I have mentioned in previous comments, and I only use this as an example because there are two sides to everything, even opinions, if a skinhead was standing outside the home of a Jewish family holding up signs and banners supporting white supremecy, which is as much of a belief as what Mr. Pouillon stood for, neither congress or this community would be as disturbed by it. They would have said he had it coming for trying to spread his hate and poison. Congress sure as hell would never get involved in it. He was a person that pushed people to the edge, and unfortunately someone should have seen this coming a long time ago. You can only aggrevate the dog for so long before he bites ya!!!! Get over it and move on. Let the family have their grieving, but it is time everyone else got on with there lives. And if they choose not to, then you all need to remember this situation, when a skinhead does come to this town and do the same thing, STAND UP FOR THEIR BELIEFS NO MATTER WHO IT OFFENDS, will you be as upset when the same thing happens to him? He wasn't worthy of congressional mention, except as a poster child for our inadequate mental health safety net.
And Mary, I'm sorry for your loss, but your pa was too "disabled" to work, but plenty strong enough to "protest" every day for decades...IMO, he took advantage and wasn't a saint( or a martyr) by a long shot. "

And now, because it is you, and I can see that you need to see the larger truth in all this, I will tell you my story. I too once believed in ending abortion rights, I hated that some could 'throw away' their child when I had just miscarried a baby boy I wanted badly... I saw the signs your father carried, when they still were known for what they actually are, medical school book pics, used to desensitize young doctors so that they can do the job needed... True anti-abortionists quit using them when some started looking up what 'spontaneous abortion' meant (miscarriage). The ONLY groups still using them are right wing christian fundamentalist groups. Groups who always have played on the pain and ignorance of the young and mentally ill.
It may be painful for you to deal with all this, but remember there are many for whom it was painful to watch what your father did too. For one of those men, it was painful to the point of insanity. "

If you must terrorize children with those lies, that merely makes your point all the more pathetic. "
