WASHINGTON - U.S. Reps. Dave Camp and Dale Kildee introduced a resolution on the House floor Tuesday, condemning violence against anyone for their views and honoring the memory of Jim Pouillon, who was killed Sept. 11 in Owosso.

“This was a true tragedy for Jim's family, friends, and the greater Owosso community,” Camp said. “I've known Jim as long as I've been in Congress, and we shared many conversations about pro-life issues. He was a tireless advocate for protecting the sanctity of human life, and I always admired him for that.”

Kildee agreed.

“The protection of human life and human dignity has been at the core of my beliefs since I was a seminary student,” Kildee said. “Any act of violence against another person based on their beliefs is despicable and I strongly condemn the murder of Jim Pouillon. My condolences go out to his friends and family, as well as other victims of this kind of senseless violence throughout our country.”

Local businessman Mike Fuoss, who also was shot Sept. 11, was not mentioned in the resolution.

Owosso resident Harlan Drake, 33, faces two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths. Drake is undergoing a psychiatric exam in Ypsilanti before court proceedings commence.

" Lance, actually they are not the truth, which is why many of us who used to believe, no longer do so. If you must lie to get your point across, you no longer have a valid point.

If you must terrorize children with those lies, that merely makes your point all the more pathetic. "

" this message is for everyone who didnt like the nasty signs.......the signs are very grusome, extreme, and nasty....but IT IS THE TRUTH! they just show what abortion does to babies...

you may not approve of them or they might "frighten" your children, but thats when the parents explain to them what abortion is and what it does to precious little babies....try explaining MURDER??? "

" Madelyn, it would be nearly impossible to not mock God, with you setting yourself up as one of his representatives.

As far as your comment about Mary Jo, if she wishes no one to disagree, she best stay off public forums. Your opinion of the matter is of no interest to me, as the comment was not addressed to you. You are free to whine to your heart's content. "

" Anne, Mary Jo is being realistic, your the one thats off..She lived with her dad, and if he did something wrong she forgave him like the bible tells us too.And it not your business anyway, He showed his love for her. God forgave Jim, do you think God forgives? I hope you don't have to go thru the death of someone close to you in your family to soon.God will not be mocked..It sounds to me like your the one thats confrontational. And would you tell me what church you attend that teaches to to judge and hurt other people? I'd really like to know..Mary Jo I love you and you keep believing your dad was a good dad and a christian man..You and God knows and thats all that matters. All These talk it but don't walk it judges will be judged one day and if they make it up there your dad will probably be carring his sign, what will you people call Jim thee?..Jesus said if you obey him you will be persacuted. Guess what, theres also ajudgment day.Be careful what you say with your mouth.Theres a heaven, but theres a real hell too..Your choice "

" Mary Jo, you are not an orphan. You are an adult. I know that does not make the loss of a parent any easier but you are old enough to understand that the same rights that were extended to your father all those years are also extended to the people on this message board.

Are some of the messages in poor taste? Yes, and I am sorry for that. Keep in mind, however, that when he stood out in front of my elementary school, junior high school, high school and my church on Sundays it was also in poor taste. Your dad chose places sacred to the community and held up an ugly sign to frighten children. He didn't reach out to help girls in trouble or help the community solve problems...he just stood there.

Mary Jo, I can't imagine what you must be going through. I hope that you find peace somewhere. Regardless of what people think Jim was your father and you should never have to defend your love for him...especially on an internet message board. Turn off the computer and just let people utilize that first amendment right your father exercised all those years. This is not worth your sanity. "

" You know what Ms. Pouillon. I'm glad you had a father to give you all of that, but the only thing that man ever gave me was nausea and a head ache. Glad he was good with your chidren because he makes mine sick having to see all of the dispicable signs that he loved so much. If he was so worried about protecting the children don't you think he should have used some discretion? I don't think he died because of his beliefs, he died because he continued to push peoples buttons and aggrevate them with the inappropriateness of his signs.

As for congress, isn't that something. Like I have mentioned in previous comments, and I only use this as an example because there are two sides to everything, even opinions, if a skinhead was standing outside the home of a Jewish family holding up signs and banners supporting white supremecy, which is as much of a belief as what Mr. Pouillon stood for, neither congress or this community would be as disturbed by it. They would have said he had it coming for trying to spread his hate and poison. Congress sure as hell would never get involved in it. He was a person that pushed people to the edge, and unfortunately someone should have seen this coming a long time ago. You can only aggrevate the dog for so long before he bites ya!!!! Get over it and move on. Let the family have their grieving, but it is time everyone else got on with there lives. And if they choose not to, then you all need to remember this situation, when a skinhead does come to this town and do the same thing, STAND UP FOR THEIR BELIEFS NO MATTER WHO IT OFFENDS, will you be as upset when the same thing happens to him? "

" This law is redundant and unnecessary. This is an attempt at grandstanding and politicizing an issue that doesn't need this type of coverage. Please, write both Camp's and Kildee's offices. This is a waste of taxpayers' money, in a time of great economic hardship for this state and our country. Please remember this wasteful use of our tax dollars when these men are up for re-election. "

" I think this legislation is misguided. It was wrong that this man was allowed to picket with his graphic signs in front of a high school. Many children have been traumatized by his graphic depictions for years, we may now add the trauma of witnessing a murder to this. I agree with Poullan's right to protest, but the graphic picture he used was clearly obscene. I am disappointed our state supreme court upheld his right to use these graphics. This latest legislation is another example of how misguided Camp and Kildee are. Please write directly to Dave Camp's and Dale Kildee's offices to voice your opinions. "

" This just makes me sad for my friend who has lost someone so dear to her. I can't believe that YOU people have to sit and write notes on here about how you thought of Jim. Let the family grieve and LEAVE them alone. Have any of you stoood up for what you believe in? You are all disgusting to just sit back and say what you feel but the one thing that is important is that he was a father, and a grandfather. And now, his family has to go through life without him. Saying that he is getting more than our soliders do is ABSURD!!! I have two brothers that fight for our country and they are trained to keep our freedom!!! You people need to get a life and LEAVE people alone who now don't have a father or a papa to talk to or hold or cry with.. Have some respect!! PROCRASTINATORS!!! I have known this family for all long time and I think of them as part of my family. And you don't know Mary Jo and how much of a wonderful person she is and how she makes people feel whne she is around. He brought her up to be the most caring and unselfish person I know. We have all made mistakes in our lives and I am sure of that.. God did to make us perfect but one thing I know for sure is that Jim is looking down on his family PROUDLY!!! "

" the sign man wanted to impose HIS views on others. He wasn't nice about it, he was a jerk, who often cussed at those who disagreed with him. He wasn't MLK, he was a religious extremist with a mental problem.

He wasn't worthy of congressional mention, except as a poster child for our inadequate mental health safety net.

And Mary, I'm sorry for your loss, but your pa was too "disabled" to work, but plenty strong enough to "protest" every day for decades...IMO, he took advantage and wasn't a saint( or a martyr) by a long shot. "

Maybe they have forgot, what goes around comes a round. Don't read their comments girl, their not worth it. And we love you Mary Jo "

Anne wrote on Sep 24, 2009 5:19 PM:

" Mary Jo, dear child, I feel for you... I truly do. But you must be realistic. Your father died not for his 'beliefs' but because the sign he held constantly reminded a mentally sick man of a terrible accident he had a major part in.

And now, because it is you, and I can see that you need to see the larger truth in all this, I will tell you my story. I too once believed in ending abortion rights, I hated that some could 'throw away' their child when I had just miscarried a baby boy I wanted badly... I saw the signs your father carried, when they still were known for what they actually are, medical school book pics, used to desensitize young doctors so that they can do the job needed... True anti-abortionists quit using them when some started looking up what 'spontaneous abortion' meant (miscarriage). The ONLY groups still using them are right wing christian fundamentalist groups. Groups who always have played on the pain and ignorance of the young and mentally ill.

It may be painful for you to deal with all this, but remember there are many for whom it was painful to watch what your father did too. For one of those men, it was painful to the point of insanity. "

" Mary Jo...So sorry for your loss and glad to hear your Dad was good to you. It does not sound like that is what some of the rest of your family thinks. If I were you, I wouldn't even read these but since you do...you have to realize your Dad was very confrontational and seemed to really enjoy that. In all the years I have seen him in town, it was a fight he wanted to start...not something he was standing up for. I wish he would have done something pro-active somewhere. Many years ago when I was pregnant he stood in front of my church. Hello! I'm at church. I had a daughter that goes to OHS and I thought he had no business up there preaching to her or the rest of those kids. She is my daughter. Go open a clinic somewhere but don't preech to someone else's child. I also feel really bad that we had someone "flip out" and killed TWO people in Owosso with another on the list. But again, lets make this an abortion issue....I'm so over it!! "

" It was more than just a random drive by shooting, and this is why my dad is being honored. I'm sorrty that another man was murdred also, but he was not murdered for his beliefs. My dad was a GOOD man and a wonderful father! I am sick of being forgoten in all of this. I miss him a lot! I read the paper, I read the comments people leave. I have been orphaned. How would you feel if you were in my shoes? I LOVE MY DAD! He stood up for the Gospel, he stood up for the innocent being led to slaughter, and he ALWAYS stood up for me! He never missed a visitation, never missed a child support payment (they came directly out of his pay before he got his check), he never missed a track meet. He helped raise his grandchildren for 2.5 years. He made more sacrafices in his life then should be expected from a person. Do not try to tell me he was anything but a good man, you never lived with him. You never had him fly to CA to watch you compete. You never had him give you a vehicle to go to college. You never had him pay your remaining tuition. You never watch him shop at Goodwill so you could buy brand new. You never had him scratch your back when you didn't even ask. Enough is enough. Let my dad rest in peace, and PLEASE let me live in peace! "
