CORUNNA - Arnie Jessen was chosen as mayor pro tem Monday by his City Council peers because of his experience, they said.

Former mayor pro tem, Dawn Johnson, nominated Jessen to the position before the Coun-cil elected him 6-0.

“He's got eight years in total so he knows what's going on, so he's a good choice,” she said. “It's based on seniority of the Council.”

Charles Kerridge is the Corunna mayor.

Jessen was re-elected for a four-year term in the 3rd Ward with 220 votes on Nov. 3 - his third term on the Council.

Receiving the pro tem title, to go along with his seat, provides more responsibility in Corunna.

“It's not too big of a deal but it adds a little something to it,” he said. “It's nice the council has the confidence in me to do that.”

A mayor pro tem is selected following each biennial election to “perform the duties of the mayor when, on account of absence from the city, disability, or otherwise, the mayor is temporarily unable to perform the duties of his office ...,” according to the Council's bylaws.

" ALL ABOUT HIMSELF -- He's in the perfect place to play "Follow the Leader". Priorities aren't the objectives in Corunna. It's more like glitz and flash. Maybe the mayor should cut some of his hunting trips and half way around the world vacations. Must be to busy of a life to hold the position of mayor. Or is he just a front for "someone else" hiding in the shadows and running the whole show for him? Sure hope Mike Sarrazin can get things back on track because all I see are smoke screens and a fantasy game since the mayor took office two years ago. To many personal agenda items and smiley faces. Ya know, KILL'EM WITH KINDNESS and the he(( with the rest. Have a close friend who lived with the deceit being displayed and I'm only beginning to understand his concerns. As he said, "some people can't get enough of themselves" and his only wish is for citizens to see with their eyes open. Not by flattering bull crap !!!! "

" Experience doesn't mean anything...the community should have never elected Jensen in the first place. He isn't about community, he's all about himself. I say, if anything, make him mayor, that way he can't vote on anything. "
