CORUNNA - Arnie Jessen was chosen as mayor pro tem Monday by his City Council peers because of his experience, they said.
Former mayor pro tem, Dawn Johnson, nominated Jessen to the position before the Coun-cil elected him 6-0.
“He's got eight years in total so he knows what's going on, so he's a good choice,” she said. “It's based on seniority of the Council.”
Charles Kerridge is the Corunna mayor.
Jessen was re-elected for a four-year term in the 3rd Ward with 220 votes on Nov. 3 - his third term on the Council.
Receiving the pro tem title, to go along with his seat, provides more responsibility in Corunna.
“It's not too big of a deal but it adds a little something to it,” he said. “It's nice the council has the confidence in me to do that.”
A mayor pro tem is selected following each biennial election to “perform the duties of the mayor when, on account of absence from the city, disability, or otherwise, the mayor is temporarily unable to perform the duties of his office ...,” according to the Council's bylaws.
