CORUNNA — A proposal to hire a part-time county coordinator put forth by the chairman of the Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners failed to advance out of Monday’s Finance and Administration Committee meeting.
A large Maple tree branch fell on a house at 221 W. McNeil St. in Corunna during a thunderstorm that included strong winds and lightning Thursday afternoon. No one was home at the time, said Corunna-Caledonia Fire Chief Scott Johnson, who was at the scene. In addition, lightning struck a telephone pole near the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso, and at least one large tree limb was removed from a local road, according to Shiawassee County Dispatch reports. About 264 Consumers Energy customers in Shiawassee County — including Meijer in Caledonia Township, which got struck by lightning — lost power. The storms, moved through the area between noon and 6 p.m., dropping 1.43 inches of rain in central Shiawassee County.
