Shiatown dam dismantled

SHIAWASSEE TWP. — A Shiawassee County contractor this week is completing the removal of concrete at the Shiatown dam that will allow the drawdown of the impoundment behind the 108-year-old structure.

According to Gary Burk, a member of the Friends of the Shiawassee River, SL&H Contractors of Corunna is removing 4.8 feet from the dam’s spillway bays, as well as accumulated debris behind the structure.
