RESTON, Virginia — Cynthia Salfate, who leads the Durand Area High School’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Michigan group was selected to receive the 2019 National Spirit of Advising Award by FCCLA.

FCCLA recognizes chapter advisers who are constantly faithful, often quietly working behind the scenes to ensure the success of their students. These are the advisers whose patience, good humor, flexibility, and skill form the foundation of FCCLA at the local and state levels. State advisers nominated chapter advisers who have the following characteristics for this award: believes in the mission of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America; supports and works with students to ensure student success; provides learning experiences; encourages positive character development; and dedicates time and energy to nurturing student leaders.
Salfate will receive the award during the 2019 FCCLA National Leadership Conference June 30-July 4 in Anaheim, California.
FCCLA is a national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address personal, family, work, and societal issues through family and consumer sciences education. FCCLA has more than 164,000 members and more than 5,300 chapters from 49 state associations, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.
