OWOSSO — The 2019 Joseph Furnish Memorial Scholarship was awarded May 28.

The scholarship was established to honor the late Joseph Furnish as well as honor his mother, Lila Jean Furnish, for her many years of dedication to the youth bowlers of Shiawassee county.

The award recognizes a senior youth bowler having outstanding academic achievements as well as strong community involvement.

This year the award was presented to Owosso senior Marissa Spalding. She is the daughter of Ken and Pam Spalding. She plans to attend Central Michigan University to study elementary education.

Coach Penny Stillwagon said, “Marissa is not only an exceptional bowler but works hard, she’s a great leader and a major supporter of her teammates.”
