Army Spc. Dina Poole, second from right, a Perry High School graduate, a member of Shops Platoon, Delta Company 2-501st General Support Aviation Battalion, 1 Armored Division Combat Aviation Brigade recently won a “soldier of the year” competition. According to a Delta Company spokesman, Poole won a monthly competition “board,” defeating four other soldiers in tests of physical fitness, basic soldier tasks and military knowledge. She then competed against six other soldiers in a semi-annual competition that featured a 6-mile ruck march, a marksmanship test and general military knowledge test. Finally, she competed against one other soldier (from a separate semi-annual board) in an in-depth test of military and Afghan history.
