CORUNNA — Covenant Eyes is hosting Marmot Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 25 at McCurdy Park’s Community Center, 421 Emma Drive.

The highlight of the day is the “Marmot Deliberation” at 12:30 p.m. when a plush marmot decides whether summer will continue or end abruptly, similar to what Punxsutawney Phil does for spring.

Mr. Marmot, a stuffed animal of French descent whose full name is Ce Marmót, presides over the day’s events, which include a free meal at 11 a.m. and activities. Attendees can also take part in disc golf, beach volleyball, horseshoes, inline skating and softball.

The wood chucking contest will challenge participants to toss the most chunks of wood for 30 seconds. There will be divisions for men, women, and children.
