OCP announces summer workshop dates

The main stage extends out over audience seats, and they have built two rooms on the sides where action will take place. Officials say it will be the biggest transformation of the space OCP has ever done. “Cabaret” opens June 14.

OWOSSO — The Owosso Community Players is offering five summer workshops at the Lebowsky Center for youths through adults.

Students in grades three to five may enroll in Shining Stars, a summer intensive from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 17 to 21. Instructor Rachael Cupples, who studied at The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York, will teach students to sing, dance and act their way through a musical.

Students will learn audition tips, vocal music, dance combinations, and acting games to gain confidence. The class fee is $150.

Students in grades six through eight have two workshop options: Audition/Performance, taught by Cupples, will focus on the ins and outs of musical theater, from the audition room to opening night.

Lessons will include audition technique, vocal music, dance combinations, and acting. There will be a combined middle school and high school performance at the end of the week. Class will take place from 9 a.m. to noon June 24-28. The fee is $150.

The second option is Who’s on First: Comedy 4 Kids. Instructor Lyn Freeman will focus on comedic timing, looking back at the masters of classic comedy and the physical qualities of slapstick. This workshop is performance based, actors will perform in and around the Castle Market. Class is from 3 to 5 p.m. July 8-11. The class fee is $80.

Students in grade nine through adults also have two options.

First, Audition/Performance is from 12:30 to 3 p.m. June 24-28. Cupples will teach audition technique, vocal music, dance combinations and acting. The workshop is intended for all interest levels, whether your student wants to perform as a career or participate in school productions. There will be a combined performance with the middle school group at the end of the week. The class fee is $150.

A second class is a one-night Lighting and Design workshop from 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 29. The class fee is $20. Cupples will focus on advanced elements of a light board and lighting design.
