CORUNNA — The Shiawassee County Health Department recently received a donation of books from the Shiawassee-Owosso Kiwanis Club, Kiwanis Club of Owosso and the Shiawassee District Library.

The groups donated 800 children’s books for children who receive services at the Health Department.

Members from the Shiawassee County Health Department, the Shiawassee-Owosso Kiwanis Club, Kiwanis Club of Owosso and the Shiawassee District Library were present for the donation.

“Reading, especially from a young age, sets up kids to be lifelong learners and it is critical to success in school,” said Cindy Garber, member of the Shiawassee District Library Board and county commissioner. “The Health Department staff enjoys being able to give their clients these books during their appointments.”

Larry Johnson, director of the Shiawassee County Health Department, said, “We are very grateful to the Shiawassee District Library and both Kiwanis Clubs for their generous donation, which helps brighten the day for the children utilizing our services.”

Approximately 14,000 books have been donated over 20 years.
