OWOSSO — The Potpourri Herb Guild honored Janet Demerly with its Woman of the Year award at the group’s annual holiday party in December at the Abiding in the Vine.

A member since 2007, Demerly has held an office for eight out of the 11 years.

“She is a gregarious, outgoing lady and very respected by the members,” the group said in a press release. “She has given the Guild many learning experiences, including bird suet cakes, plant markers, garden bling, spicy hot pads, flower brackets, button bouquets, bird seed mason jars, and how to grow and use cilantro.”

Demerly possesses “one of the most unique gardens in Shiawassee County, having added special touches over the years.

Demerly has four children and has grandchildren.

She and her husband, Dick, farm a large area, growing a wide variety of grain, including acres of sunflowers for Corunna Mills.
