OWOSSO — Two students from Salem Lutheran Schol recently were named local winners in the 50th annual America and Me essay contest.

Grace Perry was the school winner and L.J. Johnson finished second.

Perry will have her name engraved on a plaque for permanent display at the school.

Perry’s essay advances to the state competition, from which the top 10 essays in Michigan will be selected. Winners will be announced in April. State winners will receive a plaque, a medallian, $2,000, and attend a banquet, and a Lugnuts game. They also will receive a $1,000 check from Farm Bureau.

This year’s topic is “My personal Michigan hero.”
