PERRY TWP. — A 51-year-old man was killed early this morning in a vehicle crash on I-69 east of Woodbury Road.

At about 4:40 a.m., dispatchers received a call that stated a truck had crashed into a guardrail on I-69 near Woodbury.

Officials said a 51-year-old man was westbound on I-69, when his Ford Ranger went into the median and struck the guardrail, and then came to a stop in the eastbound lanes.

Sheriff Brian BeGole declined to provide details about the crash.

A medical examiner investigator reached the scene about 7 a.m.

Deputies from the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office, and Perry, Vernon and Laingsburg fire departments responded to the crash, and temporarily closed eastbound I-69.

They re-routed eastbound traffic off I-69 at Woodbury, and it re-entered I-69 at M-52. Westbound I-69 was also closed briefly while vehicles were removed. Traffic reopened on the highway at 10 a.m.

This would have been a great time to have utilized the new "RAVE" notification to those residents in Shiawassee County who have signed up to get traffic notifications, so those driving this route don't end up parked on the interstate and slowing down emergency responders. But pretty sure it didn't happen or at least I didn't get a notice. Second day in a row there were traffic issues in this stretch of I-69.
