OWOSSO TWP. — Flames ripped through a house and its attached garage in the 500 block of Dean Drive north of Owosso Saturday night.
Firefighters from four area departments battled the blaze. The cause of the fire is unknown, according to Owosso Township Fire Department Assistant Engineer Collin Rose.
Firefighters were dispatched to 515 Dean Drive about 8:30 p.m. Saturday after reports of light smoke coming from inside the home.
“When we arrived on scene we had flames showing,” Rose said. “Our guys and the city got here quickly and were able to get in right away to put some water on the fire. Everybody got out, that’s the biggest thing. That’s the most important.”
There were three peoople and one dog inside the home at the time of the fire, according to Rose. Everyone escaped without injury, he said.
Firefighters discovered flames coming from the west side of the building had spread into an attached garage.
The township fire department was assisted with tankers and manpower by the Owosso (city) Fire Department, the Corunna-Caledonia Township Fire Department and the Chesaning-Brady Fire Department.
Firefighters battled the flames for approximately 30 minutes, and remained on-scene for more than two hours checking for additional hot spots.
“All the departments here did a good job and worked well together. Safety is the most important thing and nobody was hurt tonight,” Rose said.
