SAGINAW — A Chesaning man pleaded guilty Monday in 10th Circuit Court in Saginaw to two counts of possessing child pornography.
Michael J. Eaton, 34, agreed to a deal with prosecutors that will see him plead guilty to the two felony counts in return for two counts of distributing child sexually abusive material being dropped. Judge Manvel Trice III accepted Eaton’s plea during Monday’s hearing.
The possession of child pornography charges are each punishable by up to four years in prison. Without the plea agreement, Eaton could have faced up to seven years on each count of distributing child sexually abusive material.
Eaton was arrested Jan. 23 following an investigation by the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, in which troopers claim Eaton shared child pornography in July 2018 with others via the internet.
He was arraigned Jan. 25 and pleaded not guilty. Eaton was given a personal recognizance bond and was free since that time while awaiting disposition of the charges. Court records indicate Eaton waived his preliminary exam at a hearing Feb. 1.
Eaton is scheduled to be sentenced at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 5 by Trice, who indicated he will sentence Eaton to county jail time.
