The Elsie American Legion Post color guard recently attended the funeral for veteran Thomas VanEtten, who served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. VanEtten was a car enthusiast, Legion Commander Gene Nethaway noted, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Legion members stood a flag line at Smith Family Funeral Home in Elsie. VanEtten was buried at Eureka Cemetery, where Legion members again placed flags and met with the active duty Army members who conducted a flag ceremony for presentation to the family while the Legion conducted a rifle salute and played taps.
