OWOSSO — Mike Vial is quickly becoming a common name in the music scenes of lower and mid-Michigan and Thursday he’ll bring his blend of folk and pop to the state of the Owosso Artisan Market.

Vial’s start to the professional music scene began at the age of 16 playing behind musical veterans in Detroit area jazz bands.

In college, Vial’s performances became a favorite of the Musician Guild — a group he joined in 2001 that encouraged him to push his original music. Vial’s latest recording is “Three Men Make a Tiger,” produced by Marshall Block (Keyna, the Chenille Sisters, Dave Kimber) and released in 2008.

Vial is celebrating the recent release of his newest EP, “Burning the Boats,” recorded with Dan Achen and Michael Chambers (City & Colour, Feist, Broken Social Scene) at Catherine North Studios.

Vial will perform from 6:30 to 8 p.m. during the Owosso Artisan Market.

In addition to music, vendors will showcase their wares including jewelry, soaps, breads, candles, unique gift items and services such as massage and gold panning lessons.

And special guests from the Owosso Speedway will be giving away free tickets to Speedway events.

The Owosso Artisan Market is every Thursday until Labor Day, running from 4:30 to 8 p.m.
