OWOSSO — Numerous transportation companies are hosting a job fair at 1975 West Main Street (second floor), from 9 a.m. until noon Thursday, May 30, and are seeking to fill openings immediately.

“Our central location and great transportation assets like I-69 make logistics one of Shiawassee County’s fastest growing industries,” said Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership President/CEO Justin Horvath.

“As a result, we have a number of great companies that are doing significant hiring, and we are excited to have a special event focused on filling these positions. We encourage anyone looking for a new career opportunity to attend.”

Wheeler Trucking, Davis Cartage Co., Waste Management, Ron Jackson Trucking, Indian Trails and Transfleet Interstate Fleet Carriers are looking for truck drivers with CDL licenses for full and part-time positions, according to a press release from Genesee Shiawassee Thumb (GST) Michigan Works.

Wheeler Trucking has openings for mechanic, dispatcher and drivers. According to the GST press release, owner/operators earn an average of $260,000 per year, and company drivers average $78,000 per year.

Davis Cartage has 20 openings for Class A CDL drivers and two openings for Class B CDL drivers. They are also offering sign-on bonuses of up to $1,250.

Waste Management has openings for Class A or B CDL drivers and diesel mechanics.

Ron Jackson Trucking is hiring CDL drivers with a starting wage of $15-$25, depending on experience.

Indian Trails is looking for full and part-time drivers in Owosso, Romulus and Kalamazoo. The company offers paid training and CDL certification for new employees.

Transfleet is looking for Class A CDL drivers and diesel mechanics. Owner/operators receive 75 percent of each load, and company drivers receive 22 percent. Starting pay for a diesel mechanic is approximately $17/hour.
