CORUNNA — A 19-year-old Gaines man faces the possibility of a 15-year prison sentence after being charged with sexually assaulting an underage female friend while she was drunk.
Ryan Christopher Lott Wednesday morning was arraigned by 66th District Court Judge Terrance Dignan on two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with an incapacitated victim.
Not guilty pleas were entered on Lott’s behalf at the hearing. Bond was set at $10,000 cash/surety.
A probable cause conference is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, with preliminary examination slated for 2 p.m. March 27. Both hearings will be before District Court Judge Ward Clarkson.
Shiawassee County Assistant Prosecutor Tracy Horvath said Wednesday Lott is accused of sexually assaulting a female friend in mid-2017, when she was 15. According to Horvath, the victim had been drinking alcohol provided to her by Lott when she was assaulted more than once.
“She trusted him because they were friends,” Horvath said.
Lott’s attorney, William Amadeo, said his client has no prior criminal involvement prior to the allegations he was charged with Wednesday, and said he’s “a good member of the community.” He also said Lott’s father, his family’s breadwinner, died last year.
“The kid’s been through a lot, he has a perfect record,” Amadeo said.
