Mary Anne Merrill

It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, aunt, great-aunt and friend Mary Anne Merrill.

She was 65 years young and passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.

Mary Anne was born Dec. 20, 1951, in Owosso, the daughter of Robert and Betty (Kentfield) Merrill. She graduated from Owosso High School in 1970, attended Lansing Business University and was a lifelong resident of Owosso.

Mary enjoyed traveling, spending time with family, shopping and quality time with her many friends. She was an avid Michigan State sports fan (Go Green!) and enjoyed her career at Michigan State University for 42 years.

Starting in the School of Labor Industrial Relations (LIR), she also worked in the School of Packaging and finished her incredible career at MSU in School of Planning, Design and Construction.

Mary is survived by her sister Sharon (Mark) Newsham; brother Robert J. (Elizabeth) Merrill; her boyfriend of 32 years Paul Singh; nieces and nephews Kelli Corner, Brandi Hegyi, Robert J. Merrill 3rd (Amanda), Yvonne Merrill and Charles Merrill; and great-nieces and nephews Beth Anne, Cameron, Jakob and Zakary.

She was predeceased by her parents Robert “Bob” and Betty Merrill.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Memorial Healthcare Cancer Center where Mary Anne met many wonderful people and spent countless hours visiting with the friendly and attentive staff.

A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at Nelson-House Funeral Home in Owosso.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at

nelson-house.com and can also be offered to the family at the celebration on the 14th of

January.
