Arthur L. Ellsworth

Age 88, of Durand, died Monday, June 10, at Memorial Healthcare in Owosso.

He was born Feb. 18, 1931, on the Ellsworth Centennial Farm in rural Bancroft, the son of Harry and Zaida Dunn Ellsworth. He lived his entire life in Shiawassee County, apart from a period during World War II when his father was employed building B-24 Liberator bombers at the Willow Run Bomber Plant near Ypsilanti. He graduated from Morrice High School in 1948.

He married Eula Jean Nelson July 11, 1953, and they lived in the Durand area for 64 years, until her death in September 2017. Mr. Ellsworth was employed for nearly four decades with Glaser’s Lumber in Vernon, retiring in 1993. He was an expert carpenter, specializing in residential construction, and hundreds of homes in the mid-Michigan area contain examples of his work. He was a long-time volunteer EMT for the Durand-Vernon Ambulance Service.

Mr. Ellsworth is survived by twin sons Michael, and wife Laurie, of Bancroft; Jeffrey, and wife Susan, of Lansing; and daughter Carol Keyes, and husband John, of Owosso.

Also surviving are grandchildren Justin Keyes of Owosso; Shelly Schultz, and husband Andrew, of Morrice; Steven Keyes of Durand; Sarah Thrubis, and husband Jim, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Jarrad Ellsworth, and wife Stacy, of Durand; and Alison Ellsworth and Justin Glass of Charlotte.

Also surviving are great grandchildren Ella and Ethan Schultz of Morrice, and Audrey and Rylie Ellsworth of Durand.

He is also survived by brothers Larry Ellsworth of Washington D.C., Leonard Ellsworth of Grass Lake, and John Ellsworth of Bloomington, Texas; and sisters Irma Trasko of Port Huron and Ramona Kelly of California.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 1 p.m. June 13, at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes in Durand The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 12.
