Dorothy June Walters

Age 85, of Gaines died June 19, 2019, at her residence.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel’s temporary location, Hill Creek Church, 5363 Hill Road in Swartz Creek.Interment will follow in Crestwood Memorial Cemetery in Grand Blanc.

Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. today, June 21, and 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral Saturday.

Dorothy was born Feb. 2, 1934, in Holcomb Missouri the daughter of Willie Franklin Singleton and Beulah Mae (Merrow) Singleton. She married Richard George Walters Jan. 16, 1954 in Durand; he preceded her in death April 24, 2010.

She had worked as a vet tech for the Swartz Creek Veterinary Clinic. She also worked as a school bus driver for Flushing and Swartz Creek Community Schools. Dorothy worked for Sharp Funeral Homes for many years. She was a member of the Duffield United Methodist Church and a former member of the Lennon United Methodist Church.

She served as the Gaines Township treasurer. She enjoyed 32 years in Harbor Cove, Florida, in her beautiful home on Ideal Street. There she participated in the Grandmothers Club, quilting, boat club and bowling. She also served as the Harbor Cove leaseholder treasurer.

Surviving are daughters Terry (Tim) Wheeler of Lennon and Sandra (Don) Niles of Fenton; grandchildren Jillian Niles (Bob Dedic), Christine (Andrew) White and Tyler Wheeler; great-grandchildren Cruz Wheeler and Henry White; stepgrandchildren Karry (Jimmy) Young, Tim (Gwen) Wheeler and Marty Wheeler; stepgreat-grandchildren Timmy, Karrylyn, Kingsley, Kourtney and Savannah; and special friend Roger Talbot.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant sister Wanda and brother Bill Singleton.
