Gretchen was born May 28, 1940, in Jackson, to James Badgley and Barbara Ruth (Choate) Trail. She graduated from Jackson High School with the class of 1958. Gretchen continued her education at Michigan State University, where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1962.

On Jan. 25, 1963, she married Gerald Eugene Kreuer in Jackson and together they raised three children. Gretchen was a school teacher, she retired after her children were born to take the time to lovingly raise them.

She became a businesswoman after her children were grown, she owned Misty Meadow Farm, where she made and sold crafts, and also owned a business in Owosso called Something Special. Gretchen was a humble and giving woman. She organized a group of ladies who made quilts for soldiers so they had something made with love and gratitude when they returned from the war.

Gretchen also made quilts for wounded soldiers. Gretchen’s family meant the world to her, she loved them and cherished any time she spent with them. She had an enormous faith in God that she instilled in her children and grandchildren. Gretchen was very patriotic and a staunch Republican.

Gretchen is survived by her husband of 56 years, Gerald; children Sarah Marie (Michael) Staples, Stephen Andrew (Rhonda) Kreuer and Melissa Ann (Michael) Kreuer-Allen; grandchildren Kathryn Elizabeth Staples, Phillip Michael Staples, Hannah Ruth Staples, Hunter James Kreuer, Lauren Shirley Kreuer, Cameron Don Allen and Faith Elizabeth Allen; brother James Choate (Elizabeth) Trail of Barington, Rhode Island; sister Jennifer Ann (Andrew) Trail-Privee, of Shepardstown, West Virginia; cousin Craig (Diane) Brush; four nieces; and one nephew.

She was predeceased by her parents.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Salem Lutheran School.
