Marilyn Parker Baumgras

Age 90, of Laingsburg passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at McLaren Greater Lansing.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, 203 E. First North St. in Laingsburg. The Rev. Brian West will officiate the service.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 7, at the funeral home. Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, June 10, at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta.

Marilyn was born May 29, 1929, to Garold and Louise (Wilson) Parker at Memorial Hospital. Marilyn spent her childhood and married life on the farm her ancestors settled, on Parker Road near Laingsburg. She attended the Walters School and graduated in 1947 from Laingsburg High School.

She was an licensed practical nurse at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, and Pleasant View (Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility) in Corunna for many years. Marilyn was active in 4-H, raising sheep as a teenage and asa sewing leader in adulthood in Shiawassee County.

An avid sewer and quilter, she made crazy Christmas tree skirts for her grandchildren.

Marilyn loved genealogy, she could tell you all about her ancestors and anyone she knew, who their parents and grandparents were.

She was also active in the Middlebury UMC as a Sunday school teacher.

Marilyn was married to Dale Baumgras for 65 years. He preceded her in death March 2015.

She is survived by her children Kathleen (Jim) DeForest of Williamston, Dale R. (Cheryl) of Laingsburg and Debrah Cohen of California; eight grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren; brother Edwin (Norma) Parker; sister Rosalyn Smith of Laingsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
