Letter to the editor

With the Curwood Festival fast approaching, it is my fervent hope that, if the cat contest if going to be presented this year, it can be moved to a safer location than on the river bank by the old Paymaster Building.

It is too close to the busy traffic on Main/M-21 to be conducting any pet-themed shows. The first year at this location, one ca got loose and ran toward the shrubs lining the sidewalk.

Fortunately, the owner was able to catch the frightened feline before it was able to run into traffic.

I would urge the festival organizers and cat contest promoters to work together to move the contest back to the Mitchell Amphitheater or get permission from one of the vacant buildings downtown or maybe even a pet store would step forward and allow the contest to take place in one of their locations.

Please, though it may be too late for this year, let’s take our four-footed companions safety first and foremost in any pet-related features.
