BURTON — The Division 3 first-round regional baseball game pitting New Lothrop against Burton Bentley was postponed from Wednesday to 1 p.m. today.

The field at Burton Bendle, the regional semifinal host, was deemed unplayable for the scheduled 4 p.m. start. With other scheduling conflicts later in the day, the game was postponed, New Lothrop coach Ben Almasy said

“They had flash flooding over at Bendle,” Almasy said. “They also had graduation (later) and there was no way we could play until (today).”

The other contests in the Brown City super regional went off as scheduled Wednesday. New Lothrop  will play Saginaw Valley Lutheran at 12:30 p.m. Saturday for the regional championship should it beat Bentley (18-12).

Valley Lutheran beat Vassar 9-6 Wednesday at Chesaning.

Madison Heights Bishop Foley defeated Elkton-Pigeon-BayPort 12-2, and Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett topped Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest 10-2. Those baseball powerhouses will play each other in the 10 a.m. regional title game Saturday at Brown City.
