EAST LANSING — The top-ranked Division 2 team in the state, DeWitt, ended Owosso’s season in a first-round district game, 8-0, Wednesday at the East Lansing Soccer Complex.
“The district result was definitely a tough way to end the season, but I am very proud of the way our young team developed as the season progressed,” Owosso coach Chris Bird said
DeWitt (22-0) earned a berth in the district semifinals against St. Johns (12-5-2) Tuesday.
Byron 6, Maple Valley 1
LANSING — Byron topped Vermontville Maple Valley, 6-1, in a first-round Division 4 district soccer game Wednesday.
The Eagles scored six straight goals after Maple Valley took a 1-0 lead on Alison McGlocklin’s goal 1 minute and 9 seconds into the game.
Emily Williams scored four goals for Byron, while Hunter Luke and Jenna Goodrich also scored for the Eagles.
Ryleigh Jordan made eight saves for Byron, which advanced to Tuesday’s 7 p.m. district semifinals against Dansville at Lansing Christian.
Laingsburg wins district opener
LANSING — Laingsburg won Wednesday’s Division 4 district opener, beating Bath 2-0 at Lansing Christian.
The victory sends the Wolfpack (9-4-3) into Tuesday’s 5 p.m. district semifinal against either Lansing Christian or Carson City Crystal, which play Friday.
