Barta scored on an error during the play.

In the seventh, Barta led off with a double, her second of the game. With one out, Gross homered to center field to give the Indians the victory.

Perry 3, Ovid-Elsie 1

PERRY — Tuesday’s pre-district game was moved to Perry due to a soggy field in Laingsburg, home of the Division 3 district.

“Playing at home gave us a little more momentum,” Ramblers coach Kaelin Cross said. “The seniors didn’t want to lose their last game on their home field.”

After Ovid-Elsie (9-16) scored a run in the top of the second, Perry (8-16) responded with three in the bottom of the inning and held on. Grace Knickerbocker hit a two-run double to give the Ramblers the lead, and Ella Kloeckner knocked in an insurance run.

The Ramblers made the most of four hits despite striking out 13 times against Ovid-Elsie pitcher Mikayla Timm.

“We got timely hits when we needed them and we were super aggressive on the base paths,” Cross said. “It all came together for us tonight.”

The Ramblers will meet Laingsburg in a Division 3 district semifinal at Laingsburg on Saturday.
