ACME — Local golfers Jerry Gunthorpe and Brandt Nelson missed the cut Tuesday at the Michigan Open Championship at The Bear at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa.

Gunthorpe, of Ovid, shot 13-over (77-80) for his two rounds. Nelson, a Byron grad who now golfs for Northwood University, was at 15-over (82-77).

Willie Mack III of Grand Blanc was the leader after the second round, shooting a 7-under 137. He held a one-stroke lead over Francesco Ruffino, Darren Husse and Eric Lilleboe.
