NEW LOTHROP — New Lothrop collected a pair of 4-3 victories Tuesday over Marlette in a tune-up for districts.

In Game 1, Cam Orr struck out five and walked two over seven innings. He was charged with two earned runs.

Brady Birchmeier drove in three runs and had a double. Matt Kieffer and Kollin Lineau each had two hits.

Lineau was the winning pitcher in the second game, coming on in relief with New Lothrop trailing 3-0 with no outs in the first inning. He got out of the jam by inducing two pop ups and striking out another batter.

Lineau ended up pitching all seven innings, giving up four hits, no runs and no walks with three strikeouts.

Birchmeier had two hits and drove in two runs. Orr drove in the go-ahead run with a two-out single in the second inning.

The Hornets (27-8-1) play Byron in a Division 3 district semifinal Saturday at Durand.

Chesaning splits with Freeland

FREELAND — After losing the opener 4-0, Chesaning got a split with a 9-3 win in the nightcap.

The Indians (18-14) took the lead with two runs in the second. Cole Higley led the way with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Jarrett Kelley was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, while Tyler Sager and Michael James both were 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Trent Devereaux got Chesaning’s only hit in the first game.

Bentley sweeps Morrice

MORRICE — Morrice managed just five hits in losing 10-0 and 11-0 Tuesday to Burton Bentley.

Todd Nanasy was 3-for-7 in the two games for Morrice, recording a pair of stolen bases in the first game.

Evan McPherson and Kodie Kiczenski also had base hits for the Orioles (5-21). Morrice will play Charyl Stockwell Academy in a Division 4 district semifinal Saturday at Lansing Christian.
