BLOOMFIELD TWP. — Local golfers Brandt Nelson and Nick Gunthorpe will be among the participants today as the 108th Michigan Amateur tees off at Oakland Hills Country Club's North Course.

Nelson, a Byron alumnus who currently golfs for Northwood University, was set to tee off at 9:10 a.m. Gunthorpe, an Ovid native, had a 9:25 tee time. Gunthorpe golfed collegiately at Grand Valley State from 2009-12 and was a standout at Ovid-Elsie.

The Michigan Amateur begins with two rounds of stroke play today and Wednesday. At the completion of stroke play, the field is cut to the low 64 for the first round of match play. Match play continues for three days and six rounds through Saturday.
