BYRON'S VIELE TO PITCH AT CLEARY

Byron senior softball pitcher Lauren Viele, center, signed her national letter of intent Tuesday to attend Cleary University in Howell and pitch for the women's softball team. She is flanked by Cleary head coach Tim Bailey, left, and her father, Dennis Viele. Cleary's Cougars compete at the National Association of  Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) level. The Cougars won the United States College Athletic Association national title in 2018 and were national runner-ups last year. Viele, who will major in sports management, compiled a 20-8 won-loss record last season for Byron. The right-hander struck out 299 and walked 41.
